A New Large-Format Bicentenary Edition
This special folio celebration edition of Tom Paine’s pamphlet The Case of the Officers of Excise, originally printed in Lewes by William Lee in 1772, is the first publication of The Tom Paine Printing Press, and is produced this year to commemorate the bicentenary of Paine’s death.
Printed in 14 point Monotype Caslon on white 145 gsm Zerkall acid-free mould-made paper, sewn into red 160 gsm Fabriano Ingres laid printed covers, this comprises eight folio pages, viz: Title Page, line block of engraved portrait of Paine, and six pages of text.
The pamphlet has been printed in August 2009 by Peter Chasseaud in the Market Tower, Lewes, East Sussex, on the replica 18th Century Common Press specially commissioned by Peter Chasseaud and constructed by Alan May in 2008-9 for The Tom Paine Printing Press.
The edition is limited to thirty numbered copies. Price £50. Post-free in UK.
